2017:
Meetings happening now! Last Sunday of the Month (June to October) / 3-5 pm
Main Facilitators: Jasmin Evans & Lyle Jenkins
Goals: Children’s Playground, Green Recreation, Local/Unique Businesses
The Akron City Repair Middlebury site is in Akron’s most historic neighborhood. The area around East Market and Arlington has remained mostly vacant as neighbors have great need for amenities. We learned, through a series of events and door knocking in 2016 in collaboration with The W.O.M.B., the neighborhood yearned for a playground for their children, access to fresh food, benches, and a park space.
Jasmin & Lyle both sit on the “What’s Next” Committee and are influencing the direction of community development in the neighborhood.
2016:
Main Faciliator: Beth Vild / Site Lead: Jasmin Evans
Outcomes: Upcycled Hand-Crafted Playground & Community Space on the corner of E. Market & Broad Street
Community input methods & engagement events that led up to the design and implementation of the site:
- Door knocking & surveys collected in partnerhip with The W.O.M.B.
- Envision Akron Middlebury, organized by Rooted Akron, the W.O.M.B., Grateful for Grace, and the Gathering with many other citywide partners. Envision Akron Middlebury was an entirely interactive event that engaged community members through different forms of expression.
- Middlebury Better Block, organized by Neighborhood Network, Rooted Akron, and over 40 other community partners.
