As a facility promoted as part of Akron’s sustainable industrial future, Alterra raises important unanswered questions about the chemicals released into the air, potential hazards in its waste streams, and whether it qualifies for the federal Clean Air Act exemption it claims. Our letter outlines concerns about the lack of public access to critical environmental information, examines the company’s economic promises in the context of its actual local workforce and industry investors, and asks Representative Sykes to use her position to help residents get answers.
